Congress must end US support to Israel Dear Email, After an extensive investigation, Amnesty International released a report officially declaring that Israel is committing apartheid against Palestinians earlier this morning. Israel’s Apartheid against Palestinians: Cruel System of Domination and Crime against Humanity concludes that the consistent demolitions of Palestinian properties, unlawful killings, forcible transfer, movement restrictions, and the denial of nationality and citizenship to Palestinians make up a system of apartheid. Amnesty International's report is not the first to conclude that Israel is an apartheid state. Last year, two reputable human rights organizations, an Israeli one, B'Tselem, and an international one, Human Rights Watch, arrived at the same conclusion. Palestinian human rights groups have used the term apartheid for decades. In fact, the UN Human Rights Council is considering labeling Israel as an apartheid state as well. In response to Amnesty International’s report, the Israeli Foreign Ministry claims that it “denies Israel’s right to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people.” “This is a fixed construct in the Israeli playbook”, said Dr. Osama Abuirshaid, the executive director of American Muslims for Palestine. “As usual, every time there is condemnation and characterization of Israel's crimes, it resorts to trying to falsify the facts, distort and derail the discussion, and accuse anyone who dares to try to hold it accountable for violating humanitarian and international standards as antisemitic. However, Israel’s vicious smearing campaigns and intimidating tactics are losing traction. The sun cannot be covered with a sieve. No one is holding Israel accountable for its alleged Jewish character, but for its racist policies against non-Jewish citizens, and for its illegal occupation and brutal policies against the Palestinians.” There’s no more hiding behind the propaganda, the fact is clear: Israel is committing the crime of apartheid, and there’s an international consensus backing it up. It’s crucial to understand that apartheid is not a thing of the past, and is actively occurring against Palestinians in the present moment. Israel must be held accountable for its crime of apartheid against Palestinians, and the US must take part in holding its authorities accountable.
