Hi John,
I’m writing to you today to ask you to join me in supporting my friend Tom Winter in his campaign. But first, I want to take a moment to tell you how I know Tom will be a fierce advocate for Montana in Congress.
Tom and I served in the legislature together. We were seatmates on the floor of the House, so we got to know each other very well. One of the things I appreciate most about Tom is his willingness to listen. Not only does he listen to his constituents and members of our caucus, but he truly wants to listen to folks on the other side of the aisle and try to achieve outcomes not ideology.
Respecting our neighbors, taking care of our land and our people, and working together as a community — these are the types of Montana values we need to return to, and I know he’ll take that spirit with him to Washington.
Tom has let me know that his campaign is facing its first fundraising deadline of the election year TONIGHT. I told Tom I would reach out to his top supporters (like you!) and ask them to help close the $1,403 gap to get to that $10,000 goal — can you make a grassroots donation right away?
When Tom and I served in the legislature, Republicans were doing everything they could to stop Governor Bullock’s agenda. (Sound familiar?!)
So not only did we have to focus on pushing back against the worst of these attacks, but we both cared deeply about trying to create some positive change that everyone should agree on, regardless of which side of the aisle we’re on.
I’ll be honest, we didn’t think issues like indigenous peoples’ voting rights, tackling substance abuse, expanding mental health care, increasing access to broadband internet, or making sure we have clean drinking water would be so polarizing.
But the mega-rich who have taken over our state have corrupted our politics — to the point that the far-right cares more about staying in power than making the lives of working people any easier.
I am so confident that Tom Winter will be able to fight back against those corrupt forces and return dignity to our state again — but we have to rally behind him!
So please, add a donation of $5 to help reach this important $10,000 January fundraising goal and send an advocate for our shared values in Tom Winter to Congress!
As someone who has a lot of experience running for office myself, I know how important these deadlines can be. And as Tom’s former seatmate in the legislature, I know we can count on him.
