On Wednesday, January 26, North Korea on Tuesday test-fired two suspected cruise missiles in its fifth round of weapons launches this month, South Korean military officials said.
On Monday, January 31, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile in the third such incident this month, according to authorities, while the Israeli President was in the country on a historic visit.
Also on Monday, North Korea confirmed that the launch of the Hwasong-12 missile, first reported by South Korean and Japanese officials on Sunday, was indeed an intermediate-range ballistic missile that has the capability of striking the US territory of Guam.
Also on Monday, U.S. defense analysts warned that Russia is willing to go to war and incur economic penalties over Ukraine despite U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations chair Bob Menendez's comments that lawmakers were devising the “mother of all sanctions” against Russia.
