Look, this isn’t the news I wanted to share with you today.

But it’s real, and it’s pressing, and I need you to please understand why,
ok? Thank you.

Right now, we’re pretty behind on our fundraising for Real Justice. Here’s
why that makes me especially nervous right now:

My prediction that 2022 would be a year in which we would see an explosion
in mass incarceration rates is already coming true.

From nearly ALL directions, we are seeing unprecedented attacks on our
elected DAs for delivering on their promises to end mass incarceration, to
stop locking up Black, brown, and poor people, and for addressing the real
root causes of crime.

These are ALL attacks used to fuel the fire of a punitive justice system.
And the major players in that system are listening.

We HAVE to fight back,
John.

I won’t sugar coat it,
John.

We’re up against immensely well-funded efforts by extreme right-wing
donors, police groups, and more — all working together to stop us.

But that’s exactly what fuels my fire and tells me that the work we are
doing has NEVER been more important.

We’ve put our opponents on notice. We’re showing them another, more
beautiful, community-centered world is possible. And we’re doing it
together — mobilizing, supporting, showing up, and saving lives.
