News from Representative Allred

January 31, 2022

Dear Friend,

As your Congressman and member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I swore an oath to protect our democracy. Around the world, pro authoritarian movements are gaining ground. With reports of a buildup of Russian troops lining the Ukrainian border, I flew to Kyiv, Ukraine as part of a congressional delegation to assess the threat there. I joined a bipartisan group of my House colleagues in reinforcing U.S. support for Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity. We also made a stop in Brussels, Belgium to meet with leaders from NATO and EU member states that are committed to protecting democracy in Eastern Europe.

In Ukraine, we met with President Volodymyr Zelensky as well as other top Ukrainian officials. Together with our European allies, we committed to working to deter Russian aggression at the Ukrainian border. Ukraine is an important democracy and has resisted democratic backsliding that has happened elsewhere in the region.

I remain committed to doing all I can to work in Congress to protect Ukraine and its people and to stand up for democracy whenever it is threatened.

Sincerely,
