Greg Casar kept the local Planned Parenthood clinic open when Republican lawmakers in Texas tried to close it. He has passed policies to protect families from being separated, raise wages for thousands of workers, grant paid sick leave, make housing more affordable, and expand civil rights protections.
Today we are proud to endorse Greg Casar for Congress in the newly redrawn, open, deep-blue 35th Congressional District in Texas.
You might expect accomplishments like these from a progressive champion in Congress -- but Greg is a labor organizer and Austin, TX City Council member. He is a great example of the kind of Democrat we mean when we say it matters which Democrats we elect.
The Texas 35th was previously held by Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett, who is now running in the newly drawn TX-37, leaving TX-35 as an open blue seat -- and an opportunity for progressives to build more power in Congress.
Our endorsement of Greg Casar makes him the most recent addition to our diverse slate of endorsed House and Senate candidates around the nation.
As an Austin City Councilmember and son of Mexican immigrants, Greg Casar is grounded in his community and has a demonstrated track record of fighting for affordable housing, criminal justice reform, and to raise the minimum wage.
We need elected officials like Greg who will be organizers in Congress and will fight for everyday Americans, not obstruct popular legislation on behalf of corporate interests.
Greg will continue to fight and deliver for a bold agenda in Congress. He will work to pass Medicare for All, create good jobs, protect reproductive rights, and fix Texas’ power grid.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
