Today we honor those brave men and women who donned the uniform in service to our nation. They risked everything in defense of our country and then came home to continue building a stronger America after the end of their military service.
We owe our veterans a deep debt of gratitude, which is why we must always ensure that they have access to the benefits they deserve and have earned. That's why I am fighting for them every day in the U.S. Senate.
On Veterans Day, I think of the men and women I served with in the U.S. Navy Reserve and their dedication to country. I think of my father who served in Europe during World War II, and how grateful I am for his bravery and that of his generation.
Most of all, I think of the men and women I have met who are veterans of our most recent conflicts, and how they instill in me continued confidence that America remains the greatest and freest nation in the world thanks to their service and sacrifice. Let us never fail to honor them, for they have truly honored us with their heroism.
On this Veterans Day, please join me in saluting the service and sacrifice of America's veterans.
