Last week, we warned you about the Biden administration’s refusal to undo Trump-era policies that disproportionately profile, target, and criminalize Black and brown people. They even went so far as to encourage local law enforcement to work with ICE to deport undocumented people.
Now, the Biden administration is defending key Trump immigration policies in court — fighting to maintain Trump’s border restrictions and absolve themselves from compensating separated families.
If it wasn’t clear before, this proves our work to advocate for immigrant communities is as important as ever before. Biden’s administration doesn’t have our best interests at heart, and it’s on our movement to make our demands undeniable.

Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) is actively upholding cruel and inhumane border restrictions in court that have prevented asylum seekers from entering the country.
This comes after the administration not only protected, but expanded, Trump’s ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy which targets Black and brown asylum seekers at the border.
The DOJ is also arguing that Trump’s family separation policy was lawful and that they should not have to pay any compensation to victims.
We can’t believe it either, team. But we don’t have time to be taken aback — not with so much on the line for our communities.
What we can do is organize. Because we know that the only way our communities will ever be truly free from the fear of detention and deportation is through a pathway to citizenship.
