Dear John,
Where were you when the lights went out in Texas?
For millions across this state, not only did last February's power grid
failure plunge their homes into darkness, but their heaters stopped
working, their pipes froze, and, unable to charge their phones or use
their computers, they lost the ability to reach the outside world.
It wasn’t an act of God, nor the incredible force of Mother Nature. It
wasn’t a failure of turbines or technicians.
This was wholly the fault of the governor, the man who had been repeatedly
warned of vulnerabilities in the grid and who did nothing. The man who,
instead of being with Texans in their moment of need, was on Fox News
blaming the Green New Deal.
Greg Abbott failed Texas. [ [link removed] ]If you agree, I hope you'll consider making a
donation to defeat him, and help power our campaign for all Texans forward
before our January fundraising deadline at midnight tonight.
Abbott failed to prepare us for a completely preventable disaster, and
then, after millions lost power and hundreds died because they froze to
death in the energy capital of the world, he failed to make changes that
would protect us from the next extreme weather event. That might be
because his largest political donors profited from the suffering of
Texans. Kelcy Warren’s company, for example, made over $2.4 billion on the
grid failure. He wrote Abbott a $1 million check soon after.
And to add insult to injury, Abbott forced the ratepayers to clean up his
mess. Every Texas home will have to pay the Abbott Tax – an increase of at
least $20-50 per month on our utility bills for the coming decades.
For the next two weeks, I will drive to the communities in Texas that bore
the brunt of Abbott’s failure. I’ll meet with those who found a way to
come through, and hear from those who lost loved ones that didn’t. I’ll
learn from everyday Texans who stepped up to lead in their communities
when their own governor refused to. And I’ll lay out the steps I will take
to make sure this never happens again.
This is a drive to keep the lights on in Texas. To make sure we have a
government that works for, and is accountable to, everyone in this state.

possible over these next two weeks and offer our vision for a brighter
Texas.
