Rally: Senator Kaplan, Oppose the Williams Pipeline!

Monday, November 11 at 5pm
Office of Senator Anna Kaplan
1 Old Country Road
Carle Place, Long Island

Senator Anna Kaplan is one of six Long Island senators who recently came out in support of the Williams pipeline—and against the best interests of her constituents. Later today (Monday, Nov 11), she'll be holding office hours, and we'll be there, urging her to reconsider and oppose this disastrous project. The action will begin with a rally outside her office. Then, constituents will go inside to talk with the senator and ask her to change course, stand up to corporate manipulation, and oppose the pipeline.

Monthly Meeting: Fighting for Public Power

Thursday, November 14 at 7:30pm
Brooklyn Commons
588 Atlantic Avenue (Boerum Hill)

All around the country, investor-owned utilities are facing a moment of reckoning. In California, PG&E chose to appease its shareholders rather than maintaining the grid, sparking catastrophic wildfires. Here in New York, Con Edison's recent blackouts were similarly caused by putting profits above people. These utilities routinely lobby against renewable energy while using infrastructure like the Williams pipeline to make millions.

At this month's meeting, Amber Ruther from the DSA Ecosocialist Working Group will discuss an alternate path: the public ownership of our utilities, which has deep roots in American progressivism and must be an essential consideration for any Green New Deal. Amber will also discuss bold new legislation sponsored by Rep. Bobby Carroll aimed at making public power a reality. Come one, come all!

Join NY Renews for this 2020 Budget webinar, which will cover the NY State budget process, what the coalition is asking for, and how we're going to win funds for climate justice. Presenters include Stephan Edel, Director at the New York Working Families Project, and Xaver Kandler, Campaigns Associate at Environmental Advocates.

Climate Wednesdays: Parenting in the Age of Climate Change

Wednesday, November 20 at 7pm
Central Branch
Brooklyn Public Library (Prospect Heights)

How do we talk to our children about climate change? How do we incorporate climate activism into the busy routine of parenting? How can we process our emotions in order to effectively respond to this threat? “Parenting in the Age of Climate Change” will bring together leaders in the climate movement who are tackling these sorts of questions for an important and engaging discussion. The evening will also provide concrete ideas and resources that parents can use immediately to help build a greener future. Tom Roderick moderates a panel to include Liat Olenick (Indivisible Nation BK), Nikki Crook (350Brooklyn), and Geraldine Anne Patrick Encina (Center for Earth Ethics).

Rally: Hakeem Jeffries, Support a Green New Deal!

Thursday, November 21 at 9:30am
55 Hanson Pl (Fort Greene)

This past Thursday, 350Brooklyn co-hosted the terrific and inspiring Green New Deal Town Hall: Health, Jobs & Housing. We had a great panel and a diverse and energized crowd that was truly representative of Rep. Jeffries' district, all demanding that the Congressman work to pass Green New Deal legislation. Of course, Rep. Jeffries failed to show up as he continues to be one of only two New York City congress members that hasn’t yet endorsed the Green New Deal.

But we press on! Join us on November 21 outside of Jefffries' office at 55 Hanson to deliver a petition to Jeffries and continue pushing him to support a Green New Deal!

RSVP for the rally and sign the petition to make sure your voice is heard!
