Hindsight Up Front | View From the Senate on the Russia-Ukraine Crisis

As the crisis between Russia and Ukraine enters a more dangerous phase, the stability of Eastern Europe may again be in danger. As a member of NATO with deep interests in the fate of Europe and significant concerns about Russia’s intentions, these developments have profound consequences for the interests of the United States.
Wilson Center CEO and President Amb. Mark Green will lead a discussion with Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Roger Wicker (R-MS) about the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, how the Senate is looking to shape the U.S. response, and what they saw and heard during their recent congressional visit to Ukraine. They will also discuss the possibility for the imposition of new and tougher sanctions on Russia that could target Putin personally while having a major impact on Russia’s economy as well as the profound uncertainties facing American policymakers.

The Wilson Center's President and CEO Amb. Mark Green hosts a discussion with the Honorable Robert Zoellick, who was a direct participant in these talks, to explore what was and was not promised in 1991, and the consequences of any attempt to revisit the post-Cold War settlement.

As the first woman to serve as Administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development and Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance, Fore has paved the way for future generations of leaders. Since January 2018, she has been at helm of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), leading efforts that help more than 300 million children in over 180 countries and territories, providing nutrition, health, education, water, and sanitation, and protecting rights. Very few people have seen and experienced what she has. On the eve of her retirement, Wilson Center President and CEO Amb. Mark Green, who also held the position of USAID Administrator, talks with Henrietta Fore.

The Wilson Center's Mexico Institute will be hosting its Tenth Annual U.S.-Mexico Security Conference on January 25th and February 1st. During the conference, experts from Mexico and the U.S. will provide a diagnosis of the security challenges facing Mexico, including those with bilateral implications; share research and analysis on current trends; and present novel policy options to ameliorate the toll on civilian wellbeing and democratic institutions.
