Dear Friends, On this Veteran’s Day, I extend my gratitude for those who honored the United States with its highest form of service: our service men and women and their families. We owe you not only our gratitude; we owe you our freedom. But more than these things, we owe you all of the benefits you have earned and deserve. My gratitude to you extends beyond what you did for us when you were on duty, but for the example you continue to set as citizens after your service has concluded. As your Congressman, I am committed to ensuring that our government keeps its promises to the nation’s veterans. Toward that end, I’ve been working in Washington, D.C. to address some of the immediate needs of our nation’s heroes. In October, I Chaired a Congressional Hearing examining how our current immigration policies have harmed a number of veterans and active servicemen who are immigrants. People who serve our country should not be deported. We owe it to these heroes to support and aid the transition from military to civilian life. I am also fighting for legislation to analyze the effectiveness of cannabis as a treatment for PTSD, chronic pain, and other service-related injuries. We will never be able to serve our veterans in quite the same way that they served us. But we owe it to them to try. On this Veterans Day, I urge all of you to pay it forward. Volunteer. Serve.
