Last August, DFA members stood side by side with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Robert Reich as we pushed Congress to pass the Ban Conflicted Trading Act, legislation that will keep members of Congress from using their privileged status to profit off trading individual stocks.
Now our campaign is finally gaining traction.
But here's the thing: We aren't going to win this fight by sitting back and counting on politicians in Washington, D.C. to act on their own accord. It's going to take a true grassroots movement to put enough pressure on elected officials to make this ban a reality.
Momentum for banning Members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks has been growing for years, but up until now the establishment of both parties has refused to take the idea seriously.
The fact that they feel enough pressure to come out in support of it is a testament to the power of our organizing.
To make sure that insider politicians don’t offer up a watered-down ban on trading stocks, we must show that there is widespread support for Congress to be bold and use their power to actually stop this corrupt practice.
