Inside the wild story about the BNC election that flipped on 5 votes.
Email from Brand New Congress

John -- The Florida 20 special election last year was a wild ride.

The race to fill the seat vacated by the unexpected passing of Alcee Hastings quickly became crowded, and a lot of organizations decided not to endorse anyone as a result.

Brand New Congress had a different view. We saw this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help a progressive win a safe blue seat without competition from a clear establishment favorite.

We knew it would be tough. Turnout in special elections is always low. But even we were surprised by the tiny margin of victory on primary night.

Brand New Congress was the only national organization to back progressive Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick in that race. Our early support helped win her primary by just FIVE votes. Now she’s serving in Congress.

Our next victory could be just as close, and right now we are just $1,789 away from our January fundraising goal. We cannot afford to fall short. Can you pitch in $5 for 5 votes right now?

John, running for Congress is HARD – especially for working people who often campaign while holding down a full time job and raising kids.

Brand New Congress invests early in progressive campaigns to offer strategic advice, training, and even emotional support to candidates and their teams.

Now it’s crunch time. Early voting in our first 2022 primary is just over two weeks away, and our candidates are counting on us to help them get out the vote.

Five votes put Sheila in Congress. Your contribution today could be the one that puts Jessica Cisneros (TX-28) or Jessica Mason (TX-30) over the top. Will you chip in now?

Let’s keep it going with a big win in the Lone Star State.
