What’s happening: Tomorrow, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in a group of cases that challenge the Trump administration’s callous decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In highly anticipated oral arguments, the Court will consider whether it has the ability to review that decision and if so, whether the decision to end DACA and put nearly a million youth and young adults in jeopardy of deportation was lawful. The Young Center joined an amicus brief in support of this legal challenge to the government’s decision and on Tuesday, we are joining rallies around the country to stand in solidarity with DREAMers.

Why it matters: The Supreme Court has the power to upend the lives of roughly 700,000 DACA recipients, our community members, friends, and families. If the Court rules that ending DACA is lawful, DREAMers will be left vulnerable to deportation.

What you can do:

-          If you have DACA, you can still renew your status. Here are resources to help you with the process.

-          Participate at a rally in your community tomorrow. You can use this online tool to find one.

-          Share DACA stories including the ones in the amicus brief we joined to inspire and mobilize your networks to take a stand with DREAMers on Tuesday and beyond. In addition to the written brief, you can watch and share the powerful video-briefs telling the stories of DREAMers here.

-          Contribute to the United We Dream DACA Renewal Fund to lend a helping hand to recipients in covering renewal fees.

What is next: The Supreme Court will not issue a decision until sometime next year (between January and June). This gives advocates time to prepare for any number of outcomes. In the meantime, we will continue to fight back against the administration’s attacks on children and youth.

Thank you for joining us in this fight,

Jennifer Nagda,
Policy Director
