Jack, Arizona is less than three weeks into their legislative session and already, Republicans have introduced yet another round of restrictive voting bills, including one that would allow state legislators to overturn the results of a primary or general election.

After failing to uncover evidence of fraud or miscounting during the 2020 election — despite finishing a circus-like, and frankly, embarrassing "audit" — right-wing election denialists are determined to roll back voting rights. Don't take my word for it. During a committee hearing on voter suppression bills, one Republican state legislator said the quiet part aloud, “we need to get back to 1958-style voting."

This isn't complicated. The winning coalition that flipped the state blue is composed of the very people who were denied access to the ballot before the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was enacted. Republicans are changing the rules because they can't win on their ideas alone.

In 2020, Arizona progressives turned out in record numbers, made sure their votes were counted and that the will of the people prevailed. In 2022, our partners are gearing up to do the same. With newly erected barriers to voting and possibly more on the way, mobilizing voters will be even harder. But Arizona progressives have proven their effectiveness, and will not be deterred by those who seek to divide and diminish us. Chip in $1 to each organization to help them overcome staggering odds and keep Arizona blue.
