We invite you to enjoy a night of honoring African-American leaders across North Carolina. The Resilience Reception, formerly known as the Gantt-Watt Reception, was created in honor of former Charlotte Mayor Harvey Gantt and former US Representative Mel Watt. Our selected speakers and award winners embody the Democratic ideals of both of these amazing individuals.
Second, we have speakers and award winners with inspirational stories to tell and they are making progress in their own respective communities. These individuals have broken barriers as being the first or a sign of progressive change in their cities. We will announce who these individuals are within the next couple of weeks!
Third, the event will be a networking event for all of us to celebrate the event with a vibrant African party theme. Since it’s Black History Month, we are pushing the envelope with this event. We want to bring attention to the exploration of the African-American experience.
Fourth, this event advances our purpose as an organization to train the youth arm of the Democratic Party for the upcoming midterm 2022 elections and other elections in the near future. As one of our many events through the year, this event raises funds for our organization to continue to tirelessly advocate on behalf of those same individuals. Many of you were once Young Democrats, the times have changed, but the mission remains the same!
