John,
Here’s the thing: Climate change is creating the conditions that make extreme weather events like wildfires, hurricanes, and blizzards more common and more destructive. Which means that concerns related to infrastructures, like blackouts and flooded streets, will become more common, too.
Our climate is changing, and in order to adapt, our government needs to take the critical steps necessary to develop a climate-resilient future for communities across the country.
That’s why we’re proud that SEEC member Scott Peters is part of a bipartisan effort to set the groundwork for climate resiliency policies. This week, both Democratic and Republican lawmakers came together to release proposed legislation that will help the United States prepare for the impacts of climate change.
This bill would create:
1. A National Climate Adaptation and Resilience Strategy, which would enlist the entire U.S. government to develop a unified vision of how the government responds to climate hazards and equitable climate resilience solutions;
2. A “Chief Resilience Officer” position in the White House to lead in climate strategy developments;
3. Interagency groups dedicated to problem-solving climate change threats; and
4. Partnerships with frontline communities and government agencies to help implement solutions on the ground.
We need to promote climate resiliency now and fast. It’s critical for the sustainable and equitable future of frontline climate communities.
SEEC members will work with their colleagues in every community and across party lines to promote solutions that work for every unique corner of the United States. Support their work to uplift and implement innovative climate solutions today. >> [[link removed]]
