Today is Veteran’s Day, an important holiday to recognize all our military veterans have done for us.

It’s also a day filled with sales and discounts to show “appreciation” for the people who serve or who have served our country. Because what says “thank you for putting your life on the line” more than a free burger at Applebee's?

How we treat veterans in the United States is downright sad.

Tens of thousands of veterans are homeless. About 20% of Iraq or Afghanistan War veterans suffer from major depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. The number of veteran suicides exceeded grew by 6,000 from 2008 to 2017.

Our veterans deserve more than a day that gets them 10% off at Target.

Veterans deserve to come back home to free healthcare and guaranteed housing.

Veterans deserve access to mental healthcare and comprehensive dental care.

Veterans deserve a fully funded and expanded VA so no one is left behind.

We can make this future a reality, but we need representatives who are brave enough to do it.
