You’ve probably been paying attention to the news. And I hope you’ve noticed that the very foundations of our democracy are under an unprecedented attack from far-right extremists — an attack unlike any we’ve seen perhaps since the Civil War.
They attempted a violent coup last January, and have continued spreading Trump’s Big Lie about the 2020 election every day since then.
Their rhetoric, lies and propaganda – denying basic science and demonizing the “other” – are spread through well-funded channels on both traditional media and the internet.
Republican-controlled state legislatures are actively working to suppress voting and preparing to subvert future elections by passing nullification laws and working to elect blatantly partisan vote counters.
And in multiple states, fresh on the heels of unprecedented attacks on long-settled reproductive health care rights, now they’re banning from school libraries books that address race, LGBTQ issues and the stories of other people who have been marginalized.
That's why I'm so concerned that, as of my last look at our member records, you haven't yet renewed your 2022 support of People For the American Way.
If there were ever a year when we needed ALL of People For’s members standing with us in the fight, it's this one. As a grassroots-funded organization, we depend on contributions from people like you to carry out our programs.
Unfortunately, as I write this, we are not on pace to meet our goal of 1,922 new or renewed members this month ... and we need another 642 members to step up by midnight tomorrow to hit our goals.
We're scaling up our important work that you’ve previously supported – and that has had real impact – like fighting to protect and expand our majorities in the U.S. House and Senate, defending voting rights, holding the January 6 seditionists accountable at ALL levels, and pushing to maintain fair and independent courts – including a vigorous defense of President Biden’s anticipated Supreme Court nomination against the smears and falsehoods that we all know are coming.
But time is shorter than you think ... there are critical fights happening RIGHT NOW, and the work that's needed to win this November is already well underway.
To put it plainly, we need your help.
