Today is Veteran's Day, a holiday for all Americans to honor the commitment and sacrifices of those who have given so much of themselves to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Originally designated as Armistice Day - to honor those who fought in World War I - the holiday became Veteran's in 1954, to commemorate all others who have served.
There are many ways we can honor these brave soldiers, from simply expressing our gratitude, to volunteering for and donating to charities that serve our veterans.
I am always reminded on this day what President Ronald Reagan said so well. "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same."
So, Friend, let's celebrate our veterans here at home in Louisiana and across the country on this holiday, and take a moment to honor their willingness to fight for and protect all the precious freedom we enjoy.
