Boozman Bulletin: Honoring Veterans

I was honored to join the celebration in Little Rock as 15 veterans were inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame (AMVHOF) in early November. This prestigious honor is presented annually to Arkansans for their military service. This distinguished group of individuals have demonstrated selflessness in uniform and continued service to their communities. The induction into the AMVHOF symbolizes the extraordinary military service and positive impact veterans continue to make to our country.

The Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame welcomed 15 new inductees on Saturday, November 2 in Little Rock.

The AMVHOF was created in 2011 to honor the service, sacrifice and accomplishments of Natural State veterans. The achievements of inductees are preserved in the Hall of Fame display in the state Capitol. This exhibit is a testament to the willingness of Arkansans to do their part to serve and defend our country and serves as inspiration for future generations.

Congratulations to the inductees. Learn more about the class of 2019 here

Veterans History Project

There is perhaps no better way to learn about history than through firsthand accounts. You get a better understanding of what really happened when you hear directly from those who lived through the events. That’s what the Veterans History Project (VHP)—a Library of Congress initiative to preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans—aims to do. I’m proud of the work my office is doing to preserve the living histories of our veterans. As we celebrate Veterans Day, capturing and preserving their memories is a great way to honor their service and commitment.

I talked about the importance of participating and encouraging Arkansas veterans to share their stories for the VHP collection in this video.

My staff and I have have conducted more than 60 interviews that have been submitted to the VHP. We feature an interview with an Arkansas veteran each month. This month I recognized the service of Lieutenant Colonel (retired) R. Winston Fulmer, a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served for more than 20 years in uniform.

  • Veterans Enrich their Communities: In 2015, the Veterans Civic Health Index found that military service positively impacts civic health and strengthens communities. More than 220,000 veterans call Arkansas home. We can be proud of their military service, the example they set to make our country better and their enduring loyalty to their country which makes a difference in the lives of others. Read my latest column about the ongoing contributions veterans make to our state and nation.

  • Supporting Veteran Businesses: November 4-8 was recognized as National Veterans Small Business Week. Across the country, veterans own nearly 2.5 million small businesses. The entrepreneurial spirit of veterans is thriving in Arkansas. I’ve seen the hard work, determination and innovation displayed by veterans across the state in different business ventures.

  • How I'm Helping Veterans: Stay up to date with what I’m doing for Arkansas veterans via social media. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
