Hey John,
Animal agriculture is a cruel industry of violence. At this week's Meetup: How Big Ag Perpetuates Sexual Violence we will hear from Priya Sawhney, an investigator with DxE's open rescue network, who will be sharing her experiences as a sexual assault survivor and discussing how the animal agriculture industry is based on sexual violence. Meetups happen every Saturday at 11am for everyone and anyone who cares about animals and making the world a better place! See you there.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Tuesday, November 12th, 2:00pm: Poster for the "March for the 46 Million #NoThanks" - Love postering and walking around town in Berkeley? Join us for this fun postering event promoting the "March for the 46 Million #NoThanks"! We will be meeting at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center at 2pm and head out at 2:10pm. We will try going in pairs of 2 to split off into different directions and put up posters in public spaces that allow for it. Directions and supplies will be provided!
- Tuesday, November 12th, 5:30pm: Support the Right to Rescue Resolution at Berkeley City Council! - We need YOU to show support for the Right to Rescue! The Berkeley Peace and Justice Commission passed a resolution to support the six activists facing felony charges in Sonoma County. Now the resolution will go before the Berkeley City Council. We want to show City Council members that Berkeley residents care about this issue. We will be attending their meeting and speaking in support, and we need YOU there! Meet at 1231 Addison St and wear a blue DxE shirt (email [email protected] if you don't have one).
- Saturday, November 16th, 1:00pm: How to Change the World in One Generation - Right now the most vulnerable individuals are being exploited on a massive scale and it will only get worse if we don’t take action now. But can we as average citizens really make a difference to help them? The answer is YES. In Direct Action Everywhere’s workshop, you will learn the history of social movements, the ground-breaking new research that shows the power of ordinary people, and the bold plan to nonviolently abolish the most harmful industry on Earth that kills billions of animals every year. This workshop will be heald by DxE Core organizers, Jon Frohnmayer and Eva Hamer. After this workshop you will have the tools to begin taking high impact action with thousands around the world to create historic change by saving billions of lives.
- Sunday, November 17th, 11:000am: Organizer Training Part One: Leadership - If you’re an Organizer and you haven’t come to the required Organizer Training sessions yet, plan to join us for an awesome session with Almira and Paul.
- Sunday, November 17th, 2:00pm: Pigeon First Aid: November - Every day there are hundreds of birds throughout the city of San Francisco who have strings and hair tightly wrapped around their toes, causing immense pain. Eventually their toes lose circulation, become amputated, or develop severe infections. We can help our bird friends by removing the string before the damage becomes too serious, providing medical care, and releasing them back to their flocks! We will be meeting near Embarcadero BART in front of Citibank at 245 Market St, San Francisco, CA 94105.
