John,
Today and every day, we honor all who served.
This Veterans Day, the KDP Veterans and Military Families Caucus is calling on Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran to vote for H.R. 886, the Veteran Treatment Court Coordination Act of 2019.
This bipartisan bill, which passed the House in October and could be voted on as early as this week, would direct the Department of Justice to establish a Veterans Treatment Court Program. The new program would support state, local, and tribal governments with developing recovery programs and put veterans struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues on a path to success.
Now is the time to let our senators know how important this legislation is. If you can, please call Sens. Roberts (202-224-4774) and Moran (202-224-6521) to tell them to vote for H.R. 886.
Here is a basic call script:
Sen. [Roberts/Moran],
My name is [name], I live in [town or county], [your zip code]. I am calling to urge the Senator to vote FOR H.R. 886, the Veteran Treatment Court Coordination Act of 2019. If this bipartisan bill is enacted, veterans struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues will be able to enroll in recovery programs designed to set them on a path to success. Kansas sadly lags behind neighboring states in establishing veteran treatment courts. This legislation would help provide veterans in Kansas and across the country the resources needed to establish more of these courts.
Thank you for supporting our veterans in a meaningful and substantive way.
Onward,
KDP Team
