Last Saturday marked the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, but it's in serious danger of never making it to its 50th. Across the country, we're seeing draconian legislation severely limiting access to safe, legal abortion – and the ripple effects are being felt right here in Maryland.

Even now, Maryland providers are seeing a sharp increase in the number of patients traveling from out-of-state, a number that will only rise if Roe is overturned, ultimately making it harder for Marylanders to access abortion care.

As Governor, I'm pledging to protect reproductive freedom in MD and expand access to safe abortion. I'm asking you to sign on to join me.

I'm proud that Maryland ranks among states most protective of reproductive freedom, and while our issue is not one of legality, Delegate Ariana Kelly said "just because you have a right doesn’t mean you can access it."

Access to abortion is an equity issue, and we should be making it easier, not harder, for people to get the reproductive health care they need. As Governor, I promise to work with activists, medical professionals, and providers to ensure Maryland can get folks the support they need – regardless of where they live – and continues to set an example for the rest of the nation in what it means to truly value reproductive freedom.
