Enough is Enough!

Within the last week, three peace officers have lost their lives in Texas. On Thursday, three Houston police officers were shot in the line of duty. Thankfully, the wounded officers are expected to recover. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. It is sickening to me that the Left’s anti-police rhetoric is leading to an uptick in violence against those who enforce the laws for our peace and safety. Criminals who attack our officers know that soft-on-crime judges will just let them out if they get arrested.

I, along with the Texas Senate, passed landmark bail reform legislation designed to keep dangerous criminals in jail and off the streets. We passed the Damon Allen Act, which prohibits violent offenders or repeat offenders from being released on personal bonds and mandates judges to consider the offender's criminal history before setting bail.

I have also personally written and passed legislation to provide funding for bulletproof vests for every officer in our state and bulletproof windshields for every DPS patrol car.

In the last 18 months, 160 people were murdered in Houston by people who should have been in jail. Instead, we have radical District Attorneys who won’t prosecute crimes. These judges and DAs are just making it harder for our police officers to do their job by letting criminals out on the streets rather than keeping them behind bars.

We cannot allow criminals who attack our police officers to continue getting away with their abhorrent crimes. This year, we need to vote against these soft-on-crime officials, and we need to elect judges who will respect the law and support our law enforcement officers.

Over the holidays last year, I wrote an op-ed for the Dallas Morning News titled, ‘Texas has seen too many funerals for police officers killed in the line of duty,’ this is a topic that continuously weighs on my heart. Please keep our law enforcement officers and their families in prayer. I will continue doing everything I can to make it safer for them to do their jobs.

In Texas, we are turning conservative policy into conservative legislation. The Democrats are trying to defeat me at the ballot box because they want to defund our police departments.
