Team,
Thirteen years ago today, President Barack Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law to help address the gender pay gap. This anniversary is a reminder that we still have work ahead to end the gender pay gap in our country. In Washington State, women only earned 80.2% of what their male counterparts earned in 2020, and these disparities are even worse for women who are Black, Indigenous, or people of color.
The COVID-19 pandemic has only worsened the gender pay gap, and the consequences are expected to be felt for years to come. We need to take steps now to turn things around and to fight for a world where equal work means equal pay, period.
The pay gap hurts women, our families, and our economy, and we need to address pay disparities now. If you believe that we need to take action to address the gender pay gap, add your name >>
It's simple, friend. People deserve equal pay for equal work, and that's why Derek is committed to taking steps to ensure workers are paid fairly and aren't discriminated against because of their gender.
Last year, Derek co-sponsored and voted for the Paycheck Fairness Act to strengthen the Equal Pay Act of 1963 to help end pay discrimination and eliminate the gender pay gap. And he proudly co-sponsored the Equality Act to prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Together, we can end pay discrimination and make sure people are compensated fairly for their labor. Sign on to our petition if you're with Derek in the fight to ensure everyone has equal pay for equal work.
Thank you,
Team Kilmer
