Jack,
I’m a new organizer, like my colleague Trey. Now that Justice Breyer just retired, the game has completely changed. In our own Supreme Court here in North Carolina, Justice Cheri Beasley lost by 401 votes. Though the next U.S. Supreme Court Justice will be appointed, that person will be appointed by elected officials. Mitch McConnell was able to stop SCOTUS appointments...if we lose NC in 2022, we could hand the Senate back to him. Voters matter. We need to be successful in turning out 50,000 voters this year.
When I saw that the New North Carolina Project was building out their organizing team, I knew I had to apply. Growing up as a first-generation immigrant, I saw injustices happening around me and saw the power we had when we voted.
Trey shared how he smiles when he registers a voter – here’s what I look like after I’ve registered a voter:
Organizing communities not only empowers me and gives me hope. Watching communities grow and engage gives me hope for the future of our state.
I’m looking to build lasting relationships and connections with the communities. But building a legacy takes time, money, and effort. Will you chip in $33 today? That registers one voter, and we need to get 68 more donors by the end of the month – that’s in less than three days! If you can’t give $33, could you chip in whatever you can afford? We need to knock 250,000 doors this year, and that will require building out our staff so we can build out our communities.
DONATE $33 NOWI feel proudest in the big moments when I see my organizing work impact elections, but in the more personal moments, I love the bonds I build in Spanish-speaking and immigrant communities because it makes me feel safe and at home.
Will you help us by being one of 68 more donors to give? This work is so important.
Thank you so much for being a part of this dream,
MJ
