Effective working with parents in the Early Years work group 2019/2020
We are delighted to announce details of our *Effective working with parents in the Early Years *work group for 2019/20. Childrens home mathematical experiences are vital to young childrens success as mathematicians, however parents often feel less confident in engaging with mathematics with their child than other areas of learning such as reading. Parents regularly report feeling out of touch with the way that mathematics is now taught in school and teachers commonly support parents with reading and writing (spelling) at home more than they support maths homework in the early years. This work group intends to support schools in developing their own practical, engaging and accessible methods for supporting parents that are effective for their parents and their schools approach to teaching maths in the early years.
This work group is suitable for all early years practitioners but is particularly suitable for more experienced early years practitioners and early years leaders. We are looking to work with 10 settings, 1 person per setting only.
We have attached an information sheet with full details. Please click here. [ [link removed] ]

Ofsted expectations around online safety education for 4-7's
In recent local Ofsted inspections the Inspector has asked about how children are supported in their understanding of how to stay safe online. Even if children do not access the internet in a setting Inspectors were clear that this still applies for outside the setting.

Introducing the idea of a safer internet to younger children can be quite challenging. Jessie & Friends is a series of three animations from online safety specialist at the National Crime Agencys CEOP Command. The videos follow the adventures of Jessie, Tia and Mo as they begin to navigate the online world, watching videos, sharing pictures and playing games. A storybook accompanies each episode, to help adults keep the conversation going with the children. Find the resources here: [link removed] [ [link removed] ]

Early Years & Foundation Skating at National Ice Centre
The National Ice Centre Schools Ice Skating commenced in 2006 delivering 6-week programmes to schools across the City and County and has now taught more than 30,000 children to skate during this time.
The schools ice skating programme offers great value for money and provides schools the opportunity for children to try a new activity that they may not normally access. There is a real sense of achievement when the young person succeeds in being able to skate freely by themselves after 6 weeks of skating.
The ice skating programme is inclusive to all pupils and we are confident that we can accommodate every need eg wheelchair users or children with mobility issues. Please click here for more information and how to book. [ [link removed] ]
