[1]Mandela Barnes for Wisconsin

I was born in Milwaukee, in one of the most impoverished and incarcerated zip codes in the state. A community lacking resources, but brimming with joy, resilience, and hardworking, brilliant people.

My mom was a Milwaukee school teacher for 30 years, and my dad worked the 3rd shift at the General Motors plant. They were both active union members organizing for better wages and defending workers’ rights.

My parents' example showed me the importance of working hard and fighting for opportunity for everyone.

They taught me the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of a good education. They also taught me that we can’t settle for what is – we have to reach for what can be.

That is why I'm running for U.S. Senate.

On Monday, we face an important end-of-month fundraising deadline. And we need a large number of individual donations between now and the time the deadline ends in order to reach our goals.

Now, you know that I don't have huge amounts of personal wealth to fund this campaign. I am not accepting any corporate PAC money. That means I am counting on you.

So I'm asking you directly:

Can you please make a contribution to our campaign before our end-of-month fundraising deadline? Your donation will help us build the kind of campaign that can defeat Ron Johnson.

Sadly, politicians like Senator Ron Johnson are standing in the way of progress. Johnson has repeatedly turned his back on the people of Wisconsin, instead of peddling wild conspiracy theories and cynical attacks that divide us.

Now that he's announced he's running for re-election, it is more important than ever that we show we are ready to take him on and win.

But let's be clear: this campaign isn't just about defeating Ron Johnson. It is about expanding opportunity to everyone in Wisconsin and across the country, regardless of where they live or where they were born.

When things get tough, we shouldn’t lower our expectations. Instead of changing our dreams, we need to change the game.

In the U.S. Senate, I will be committed to taking on the existential threat of climate change, creating good-paying jobs, protecting voting rights, and ensuring health care is granted as a right to everyone. And I will be the 50th vote to end the filibuster to ensure we can make progress on these important issues.

But I cannot win this race alone – it is going to require all of us.

The only way we'll have the resources to build a winning campaign is from lots of people contributing what they can. If you can afford it, can you add a donation today?

Make a contribution to our campaign today ahead of Monday's end-of-month fundraising deadline. Every donation sends an important message that we're ready to defeat Ron Johnson.

Thanks for being a part of this campaign. It means a lot to know we're in this together.

All my best,

Mandela Barnes
