Governor Hogan joined MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to discuss the Omicron surge and how he’s managed to remain overwhelmingly popular with every demographic as a Republican in the bluest state in America.
Governor Hogan spoke to NBC News about the urgent “need” for more Republican leaders who can grow the party’s appeal.
According to NBC, “moderate Republicans have a strong track record of winning governorships in states that might never vote for a Republican president, especially in tough years for Democrats, as this one is shaping up to be.” Polling has consistently shown that the most popular governors in America are Republicans in blue states, including Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, Vermont Governor Phil Scott, and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker.
According to a recent poll, Governor Hogan’s approval rating is at 74%, 20 points higher than President Biden’s approval in the most deep-blue state in America and near or above 70% for every demographic group in the state.
Governor Hogan wrote an op-ed in The Atlantic urging Washington to “ignore the phony partisan rhetoric” on America’s elections and focus on fixing ambiguities surrounding the Electoral Count Act that helped lead to January 6th.
According to Governor Hogan, “Biden and the Democrats use the memory of January 6 to pretend that their preferred reforms are necessary to stave off a return to systemic, racist voter suppression; Trump and his supporters use it to pretend that he was robbed of victory. Instead of pursuing their self-interested political agendas, our representatives in Washington need to focus on fixing the part of our electoral system that really did come under attack on that day.”
