Pelosi’s team introduced the “America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing Pre-Eminence in Technology and Economic Strength Act” (America COMPETES Act) earlier this week.
It’s also important to note that the House unveiled this “America COMPETES Act” on January 25th and gave other members Congress until January 28th to read the text and make amendments… This bill is 2,912 pages!
It turns out that when the Left writes a monstrous bill that’s supposed to address our economic competitiveness by fixing supply chain issues, addressing technology and U.S. manufacturing with their liberal wishlist…they cram it so full of Liberal policies that it’s no longer about America being competitive!
For instance, you will hear a lot about the billions of dollars in subsidies for American tech companies to make semiconductors. What you won’t hear in the news, is that there is no requirement that those companies change their business relationships in China.
American taxpayer dollars will directly subsidize Chinese industry, in the name of competing with it. If we want to actually compete with China, we can’t throw more taxpayer money at “business as usual.”
Here’s SOME MORE of the egregious provisions House Democrats included in the bill:
- Billions of taxpayer dollars to address climate change ($3B for solar manufacturing)
- Combating sexual harassment in “science”
- Union organizing efforts
- Funding for Chinese language studies
- Millions more to fund government science offices
Every time we turn around, the Left is trying to slide something by the American people and they’re using YOUR TAX DOLLARS to do it. Democrats in Washington know if they want to get re-elected they need to satisfy both their progressive base and special interest groups.
