CONGRESSMAN GAETZ ANNOUNCES SERVICE ACADEMY NOMINATIONS FOR 2022
On Tuesday, I arrived at Choctawhatchee High School, where I proudly announced my 2022 service academy nominations for Florida’s First District. This is always a cherished moment, where I see America’s future leaders and public servants rise to the occasion to pursue their hard-earned bright futures in the United States of America. I proudly nominated students to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. BASIC HOUSING ALLOWANCE APPROVED IN NW FLORIDA
As I announced earlier this week, I am thrilled to share that Santa Rosa, Escambia, Okaloosa, and Walton counties have endorsed an increase in the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) in the military.
Over this past year, in partnership with local communities in Florida’s First District, we identified that the BAH rate was insufficient to cover the cost of housing for the service members in our district. This deficiency prompted my office to add a provision in the FY 2022 NDAA, which requires the Department of Defense (DoD) to produce a report on housing and the BAH rates in Northwestern Florida due by Spring 2022. The Air Force, upon learning of this discrepancy, provided a temporary increase in the BAH rates for service members who apply for it. From this, we drafted a Resolution and approached the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors, the Pensacola Association of Realtors, and the Navarre Board of Realtors for their input in December 2021.
After receiving approval from the realtor organizations, we approached several county commissioners including Bob Cole (District 2, Santa Rosa County), Jeff Bergosh (District 1, Escambia County), Mel Ponder (District 5, Okaloosa County) and Danny Glidewell (District 2, Walton County), for their input and support. From this engagement, all four counties have passed their respective resolutions. Each resolution tells the DoD in a unanimous voice that the constituents of FL-01 fully support the Military Mission line, along with the service members that support the military mission.

BIDEN DENIES ACCESS TO COVID TREATMENT
The critical role that monoclonal antibodies have played in COVID-19 treatment is undeniable. Monoclonal antibodies are laboratory-made proteins that mimic the immune system’s ability to fight off viruses. Science has shown in study after study that this treatment is a miracle drug for COVID-19 patients and receiving this treatment can be a matter of life or death for patients. Nevertheless, real science is cast to the side in favor of politics.
On January 24th, the FDA made the abrupt decision to not reissue the emergency use authorization for Eli Lilly and Regeneron’s antibody treatments, stating that these treatments are not authorized for use in any state. Following this authoritative order, thousands who were awaiting treatment have been denied.
From this disappointing news, I joined Senator Marco Rubio’s letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Beccera, expressing concern over Joe Biden’s decision to “disrupt the response effort by unexpectedly cutting access to life-saving treatments that hundreds of thousands of Americans rely on.” Monoclonal antibody treatment sites throughout Florida, which have aided in saving thousands of American lives, will now be closed until further notice. The FDA stated that the guidance on this conclusion is based on “evidence” which has shown that monoclonal antibodies are not effective against Omicron infection and therefore “avoids exposing patients to side effects … which can be potentially serious.” The Biden administration has made an irresponsible decision to disrupt the response effort by unexpectedly cutting access to life-saving treatments that hundreds of thousands of Americans rely on.

On Newsmax this week, Greg Stinchfield and I made it clear that Congressional insider trading needs to end. Moreover, picking a side on this is NOT a complex issue. Members of Congress are either in support of trading stocks on Wall Street while they hold office, or they are they are not. There is bipartisan support to ban stock trading in Congress and to no surprise, Nancy Pelosi—the biggest offender—will not call for a vote on this.
