John, this week is a reminder that elections have consequences.
President Biden will be able to replace Justice Stephen Breyer with another defender of reproductive rights, equality under the law, and the integrity of our democracy -- and it's because of the hard work that so many did last cycle to flip the U.S. Senate by the narrowest of margins.
Governing with a narrow majority isn't easy. We've seen that time and time again over the past year. But at critical moments -- such as a Supreme Court opening -- having even the smallest of margins makes a world of difference for the future of the country.
Our majority in the House, thin though it may be, has also made a major impact. We've been able to lead the way in passing the American Rescue Plan that revitalized the economy and turned 2021 into a record year of growth. We've laid the groundwork for the Senate to pass Build Back Better. And we've shaped the national conversation by passing bills on voting rights, gun safety, and protecting Roe v. Wade.
Never doubt that the work we put into winning elections matters at the margins. Our five-seat majority in the House came down to just tens of thousands of votes across several districts in 2020. And I won't lie: the playing field for 2022 is much more challenging.
But we've been counted out before. January does not have to be predictive of November if we mobilize now to secure competitive districts -- including VA-10.
So I'm asking: will you pitch in a few dollars before our January fundraising deadline? It's our first major test of strength in this election year, and I want to show the Republicans that we're mobilized, energized, and ready to win.
Thank you,
Jennifer
