Dear John,

I want to share some updates with you from Congress and across the country. Here are four things to know today:

1. I want to applaud the recent announcement by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development of a grant awarded to the City of Albany, Georgia. The city’s Department of Community and Economic Development will receive a grant award of $21,725 to continue their housing counseling program for residents in Dougherty and the surrounding 15 counties. This program is an investment in our community that helps residents navigate apartment rental living and home ownership. Making sure our residents know about fair housing practices, strengthening their fiscal skills, and learning more about rental housing and home ownership will help improve the quality of life for families and enrich our communities.

2. On Wednesday, I sent a letter to the White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator to draw attention to an issue some residents in Middle and Southwest Georgia are having when trying to request their free COVID-19 testing kits through www.covidtests.gov. The Biden Administration is stepping up to the challenge by providing people, who request it, with free COVID-19 testing kits. However, we learned that some apartment residents and those using rural addresses and PO Boxes are not able to order kits through the website www.covidtests.gov. I have brought this to the attention of the White House in order to quickly fix this problem so that everyone has access to these testing kits.

3. On Tuesday, I was shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Montezuma, GA Mayor Larry Smith. At every stage of his life, he dedicated himself to the service of others. He was an inspiration to those who watched his leadership. He always demonstrated passion and optimism that all people could work together to make the community better. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife, Laura, and his entire family. We join the citizens of Montezuma and Macon County in mourning the loss of this dedicated public servant.

4. Once again, I want to highlight the urgency of my re-election campaign. Over the last month we have seen two challengers announce their campaigns, with one of my opponents raising $100k in just 10 days. Election day might seem like a long ways away, but in reality, we are moving closer to the finish line at an alarmingly quick rate — and we don’t want to watch our opponent pass us. Please, help us keep pace by making a donation today. [[link removed]]
