The drive for two-party solutions is real…
…and you can help make it happen.

One of my favorite expressions is, “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.”

The “main thing” for the No Labels community is to change the incentives in our political-media culture so that two-party solutions in Washington are the rule and not hard-sought exceptions.

Two pieces of important legislation are working their way through the process now – and we all need to show support for the members of Congress in both parties who are pushing to turn bills into laws.

In both cases – on reforming our election laws to restore confidence in the voting process, and on competing with China economically – our allies are following the blueprint successfully used to pass the infrastructure law.

That means negotiations starting with a blank sheet of paper that gets filled in with input from senators and House members of both parties.

On the China bill, the Senate passed its version with strong bipartisan support a few months ago. The Democratic leadership in the House went in a different direction this week, releasing a much different version with no input from Republicans.

This is a classic example of what is wrong with Washington. Everyone agrees we need to do more to compete with China, including right now on the production of semiconductors. We don’t have a month to waste.

And yet House Democrats took a step this week that, at best, will delay the process.

Let’s all do whatever we can to urge Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic leadership to move towards voting on a version of the China bill that can actually get signed into law ASAP.

On the election reform efforts, a bigger and bigger bipartisan coalition of senators is working hard on a package that would be great for the country, a practical, two-party solution on which both sides negotiate in good faith to find common ground.

It is vital that we do everything we can to urge members of Congress – our allies, leadership, and others – to produce two-party bills on both of these important issues.

One thing you can do: Sign our petition cheering the bipartisan talks on.

Another: Go on social media and like or retweet our posts on this.

Getting these two bills to President Biden’s desk would be great follow-on achievements after the passage of infrastructure. As we like to say, the best way to keep winning is to keep winning.

As the midterm elections approach, legislating will get tougher. So let’s get this done now.

Thank you for all you do for this movement.

By Ryan Clancy & Me

With President Biden marking one year in office, pollsters are asking if the nation is on the right track or the wrong one. But what’s the “right track” for supporters of two-party solutions? And will it be a snowy day in South Carolina before we see bipartisanship on Capitol Hill?

House chiefs try bipartisan experiment: Talking to each other
By Jim Saksa

That realization — that they have more in common than what separates them — is one of the reasons they decided to run to lead the House Chiefs of Staff Association, together. They won back in September with 256 of the 356 votes cast. It’s the first time the staff organization, which traces its founding back to the “Little Congress” created in 1919, has bipartisan co-chairs heading it.

America can't quit polarizing politicians
By Neal Rothschild & Sara Fischer

New data finds that the nation's most polarizing politicians are often the ones that garner the most attention online. This supports a broader trend of American politics becoming a breeding ground for more extreme politicians to run — and sometimes win — elections.
