John
This month marks the 12th anniversary of the Supreme Court's disastrous
Citizens United. This awful decision made it perfectly legal for corporations and special interest groups to give and spend as much money as they want in order to buy candidates and politicians who will do whatever they want.
Instead of fighting for equality and equity, far too many politicians are fighting for high-dollar donors. Instead of speaking to folks on issues and showing how they will be true representatives to hard working people, politicians are catering their message to special interest groups to fund their campaigns.
It's absolutely no coincidence that Citizens United gave white supremacy easy access to our elections. They want nothing more than to silence us, but we can't -- and won't -- fall victim to their blatant control tactics.
We need a change now. White supremacy doesn't sleep John, and they're working tirelessly to suppress and control our communities with their personal interests.
We need to tackle this head-on by pooling all of our resources toward electing legislators on every level that are dedicated to Black liberation -- not white supremacy. Chip in to fuel our efforts >>
Since launching in 2020, we've had to fight these outside influences
and have succeeded. From helping to elect the first Black Senator to Georgia as well as increasing Black voter turnout, there's far more in the cards for us so long as we pool our resources and work together.
For too long, these crooked politicians have taken for granted the votes of Black people all around America. The focus
has to return back to what's important -- expanding voting rights, ensuring Black Lives Matter, ending police violence -- instead Republicans are focused on making it harder for Black folks to vote.
With an end to
Citizens United, we can significantly reduce the surplus of special interest influence and restore the value and importance of our democracy.
We won't let them get away with this. If democracy is going to work for all of us, it must include all of us. We're holding everybody accountable this year.
It is going to take all of us to fight back against the campaign finance abuse we see stemming from Citizens United. It starts with electing the right leaders. Can you please contribute $5 or whatever you can today to help us in this battle?
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter PAC
