As a Marine in Afghanistan, I led patrols through villages contested by the Taliban and I saw firsthand the futility of the Forever Wars.

And that’s what Congress is so often missing these days: people who have seen these conflicts firsthand.

We are at an all-time low of veterans serving in Congress since World War II.

This trend hurts all of us, not just our troops -- because veterans offer a unique perspective in Congress, and are able to work together to get things done while still sticking to our principles.

VoteVets has put countless dollars and work hours behind the campaigns of veteran candidates like me for just that reason.

As someone who served their country both in uniform and now in Congress, I am especially proud to see VoteVets standing up to the insurrectionists who tried to overthrow our democracy on January 6th.

Our nation is at a critical impasse and we have to decide who leads: Those who will defend our democracy above all else, or Trump-sycophants who have never served anything beside their own self-interest their entire lives.
