Dear Friend,
This week, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer announced his intention to retire, leaving President Biden an opportunity to appoint a new Supreme Court Justice who will work to protect voters. This seat opening represents an even larger change for our country, as yesterday, President Biden reaffirmed his commitment to appoint a Black woman to replace Justice Breyer, a historic moment for our nation and its jurisprudence. Our courts are an essential part of our democracy, and can determine the outcome of policies for voters for generations.
In this historic moment, will you pitch in to support voting rights?
In the 2020 election, Black, brown and young Georgia voters overcame unacceptable obstacles—put in place by anti-voter lawmakers—to turn out in record numbers and make their voices heard. Republican-controlled state legislatures will likely continue to pass extreme anti-voter laws that will block access to the ballot box and dramatically undermine our democratic institutions.
With voting rights battles being fought in courts across the country, now more than ever, the Supreme Court will be crucial to prevent further backsliding of democracy, and we must urge the appointment of a Justice who will uphold and defend voting rights on the highest Court in our nation.
Together, we can continue to fight for voting rights on the ground and in the highest court.
