Friend,
I’m pleased to invite you to Declining to prosecute: The role of prosecutors in drug decriminalization and promoting public health, a free virtual discussion series on February 9 and February 16.
With your support, DPA has been leading the fight for drug decriminalization to end arrests and incarceration for drug possession and instead invest in health alternatives. This event will focus on how prosecutors play a crucial role in moving drug decriminalization forward with an incredible lineup of speakers and experts from across the country who will also be answering audience questions.
Register for Part 1 - The evidence: Why some prosecutors are declining to prosecute and what the research shows on February 9, 3:00-4:30pm ET
This panel will feature State’s Attorney for Baltimore, Marilyn Mosby, Miriam Krinsky (Fair and Just Prosecution), Dr. Susan Sherman (Johns Hopkins University), and Dr. Anna Harvey (New York University) discussing why declining to prosecute drug offenses is a necessary step forward towards a public health approach to drug use and the research evidence that supports this practice.
Register for Part 2 - Declining to prosecute: A discussion with Policy Directors on how to get started on February 16, 3:00-4:30pm ET
This panel will feature Sherry Boston, State’s Attorney for Dekalb County, Georgia, and policy directors from prosecutor’s offices in various jurisdictions including Michael Collins (Baltimore), Jill Harris (Kings County), and Mike Lee (Philadelphia) discussing the nuts and bolts of non-prosecution of drug offenses and various considerations, challenges, and opportunities with this approach.
DPA is proud to be hosting this event in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Fair and Just Prosecution, and the Institute for Innovation in Prosecution at John Jay College, and we hope you can join our series of conversations next month.
