John, this is a historic moment - President Biden has confirmed that he intends to nominate the first Black woman to the Supreme Court as Justice Breyer’s successor.
This is a crucial first step in making sure the Court better reflects the country it serves. And it’s long overdue – in 283 years, America has had 115 Supreme Court justices, and 45 different Presidents, but none of them appointed a Black woman to the Court.
But replacing Justice Breyer won’t change the balance of the most conservative Supreme Court we’ve had in almost a century. If we’re going to tackle the biggest challenges facing the nation today, we have to also confront a right-wing Court supermajority that’s already started rolling back decades of civil rights protections.
Help us keep the pressure on this administration and Congress: once we confirm the first Black woman to the Supreme Court, we must add 4 more justices to ensure the Court once again protects our rights and democracy.

Republicans violated all historical norms to steal a Supreme Court supermajority. Now Democrats in Congress must use the confirmation hearings to highlight the long-term threat the 6-3 Court poses to America.
The right-wing extremists on the Court gutted the Voting Rights Act last year, this year they look certain to overturn Roe v. Wade. If longstanding precedent on voting or abortion rights doesn’t survive this 6-3 Supreme Court, progressive legislation addressing everything from racial justice to climate action won’t either.
This is the first step in making sure the Supreme Court represents the will of the people, and with your help, we can make sure it’s not the last.
Thanks,
