On Justice Breyer's Retirement
On Wednesday, news broke that Associate Justice Stephen Breyer would be retiring from the Supreme Court at the conclusion of the current term, which ends in late June. Democrats have been pressuring him to retire since last July in an attempt to give Joe Biden a much-needed first year "win." Justice Breyer resisted such pressure and was heavily criticized by Democrats. Now there are reports that he was "blindsided" and "stunned" by the leak of his retirement.
Unfortunately, in yielding to the progressive wing of his party, Joe Biden will likely nominate a candidate much more liberal than Justice Breyer. As Sen. Mike Braun noted in his statement ([link removed]) , Joe Biden's coddling of the far left throughout his presidency leads one to believe such. Instead, Joe Biden should put forward a dedicated constitutionalist who respects the rule of law and our nation's system of checks and balances.
Sen. Todd Young has called for ([link removed]) a "thorough but fair vetting" of the potential nominee, which he correctly notes President Trump’s Supreme Court nominees never received. Let's not forget: Democrats tried to smear Neil Gorsuch as a sexist ([link removed]) , accused Brett Kavanaugh of perjury ([link removed]) , and called into question ([link removed]) Amy Coney Barrett's Catholic faith.
Of course, this wasn't all too surprising. After all, it was Joe Biden who turned the confirmation process into a "blood sport driven by character assassination ([link removed]) " back in 1987.

Governor Holcomb's Week That Was
Camp Atterbury & A Rails-to-Trails Honor

On Monday, Gov. Holcomb was joined by Aaron Batt, federal coordinator of Operation Allies Welcome, to announce the upcoming end of the joint mission at Camp Atterbury that helped settle 7,201 vetted Afghan refugees into a new life in America.
Camp Atterbury first began accepting refugees on Sept. 1, 2021, and provided them with lessons on life in the U.S. and worked to prepare them with job training and life skills for what lies ahead, including English classes.
Hoosiers came together and donated 2.6 million items to assist the refugees with their first Hoosier winter; about 700 of the refugees will call Indiana home.
"I think about this journey, that these 7,200 that found their way to Indiana, this journey away from oppression and a war-torn country to this place of peace and promise," reflected Gov. Holcomb. "These were giant steps in lives."
On Tuesday, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy named Gov. Holcomb as the next Doppelt Family Rail-Trail Champion for his leadership in accelerating trail development across the state. Among his accomplishments is the Next Level Trails program, an innovative state funding program that RTC says could provide a model for other states looking to accelerate trail development nationwide.
Gov. Holcomb is the 40th honoree and the first acting governor to be recognized as a Rail-Trail Champion.

Sen. Young, Rep. Pence, Sec. Sullivan join "March for Life"

On Monday, days after the 49th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, Sen. Todd Young, Rep. Greg Pence, and Indiana Secretary of State Holli Sullivan joined hundreds of Hoosiers at the fifth annual "March for Life" rally held outside of the statehouse.
In his remarks during the rally Sen. Young stated, "I believe this will be the last anniversary in which Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land and this is where the real work starts."

Indiana Unemployment Rate at Historic Low
Our take: In Indiana and across the country, Republicans are leading the charge in economic recovery.

Indiana's unemployment rate fell to 2.7% in December, down from 3% in November and to the lowest level in 46 years.
The Hoosier State has not had such a low jobless rate since 1976, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Registration is open for the Indiana Republican Party's 2022 Congress of Counties!
This two-day training event for Republican Party leaders, candidates, and grassroots activists is scheduled for Friday, February 25 through Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the historic French Lick Resort ([link removed]) in French Lick, Ind.
