Ray-Ban has teamed up with Facebook to create "Story glasses" which allow
people to secretly photograph and record others. In addition to being
creepy, it's a data privacy nightmare and will only continue to enrich the
coffers of Mark Zuckerberg.

But the glasses are only available in select countries, which means if we
raise the alarm now, we can get Luxottica, Ray-Ban's parent company, to
stop the rollout and scrap these creepy glasses altogether. [ [link removed] ]Take Action!

John,

Ray-Ban has teamed up with Facebook to create “Story glasses” which allow
people to secretly photograph and record others.

It’s a stalker’s dream product, and sounds like something out of a Black
Mirror episode. But these problematic glasses are already for sale, with
celebrities like Kylie Jenner advertising them on social media.

So far they’re only available in select countries, which means if we raise
the alarm now, we can get Luxottica -- Ray-Ban’s parent company -- to stop
the rollout and scrap these harmful glasses altogether.

They look like ordinary sunglasses, and offer no obvious indication that
recording is taking place. A white light appears, which cannot be seen
easily in daylight or from a distance. Activist groups urged the companies
to at least make the recording light red, like other devices, only to be
ignored.

And beyond being creepy, these glasses are a privacy nightmare. The only
way to use them is to give Facebook access to all kinds of sensitive
information, which the company will likely harvest for further profits and
manipulation.

Our pressure is working. Facebook announced it is pausing its plans for
Instagram Kids - thanks to a big campaign that our community was a part
of. But Luxottica is rarely in the spotlight, and now is our chance to
change that. Let’s hold Luxottica’s feet to the fire and demand it stop
partnering with Facebook on this creepy and harmful technology.

Our community is at the center of the fight for Big Tech accountability,
and as the companies evolve into new markets like wearable technology and
virtual reality products, we will continue to be at the forefront fighting
to protect users from harm. Let’s do it now, and get these creepy glasses
off the shelves!
