Pennsylvania is one of just seven states that voting rights advocates are closely monitoring ahead of the crucial midterm elections. GOP State legislators are poised to further restrict voting access for Pennsylvania voters through measures including elimination of mail-in voting, which was just authorized in 2019 (pre-pandemic) and became an invaluable tool for voters as the pandemic spread.

We cannot move backward in our quest for equitable voting rights. Our best defense against state-level voting restrictions like the ones proposed here in Pennsylvania is to enshrine voting rights at the federal level.

I am proud to fight every day to deliver real voting rights reform for Pennsylvanians and all Americans. But if Republicans take back control of the House in November, we’ll lose all the progress we’ve made. The stakes are too high, so we can’t afford to lose a single seat — and that starts right here.
