Justice Stephen Breyer, one of the three remaining liberal justices on the Supreme Court, is retiring. Democrats hold a razor-thin Senate majority with which to confirm his successor. But with so many important cases headed to the Court, it is imperative that we maintain and expand that majority to ensure we can confirm future nominees who take into account the human impact of major SCOTUS decisions.

Even now, Senate Republicans are ready to do anything they can to stall a SCOTUS confirmation until November, when they expect to take back Senate control.

Our conservative-packed Court’s recent decisions are a major cause for alarm, John, and do not bode well for free and fair access to elections or reproductive rights. It is critically important that a Democratic majority in the Senate is able to confirm President Joe Biden’s nominee, and eventually balance SCOTUS to prevent further damage to our democratic institutions.
