John, there's
officially a vacant seat on the Supreme Court. Yesterday, Justice Breyer announced he's retiring.
This is the moment for President Biden to fulfill the promise he made on the campaign trail: To end 230+ years of Black women's exclusion from the Supreme Court.
In the two centuries since the establishment of the Supreme Court, no Black woman has ever been nominated. Our nation deserves a radically progressive Black woman on the Supreme Court of the United States – and that time is
now.
If nominating and confirming a Black woman to the Court was easy, it would have been done already. White supremacy never shies away, and because of that, this will be hard -- but
winning despite a system that is rigged against us is what we've
always done.
The far-right will spread misinformation and do everything in their power to keep a Black woman off the Court -- but they've got nothing up against our people-power.
That's why we're partnering with Demand Justice for an emergency organizing call to get to work in ensuring that we get the first Black woman Supreme Court Justice in history. It's happening at 8:00 p.m. ET TONIGHT on Zoom – RSVP now >>
Since 2018, Demand Justice has empowered people across the entire country through collective action and activism in the fight to restore balance and legitimacy to our federal courts. Demand Justice has been a constant advocate for reform of the courts, and we're beyond excited to be partnering with them once again.
We know the underrepresentation of Black women in the federal judiciary is not due to a lack of talent but, due to racism and sexism among those in power. It is completely undemocratic. It's corrupt, and it's a blatant disregard to our people in this country. We must ensure that the judiciary system reflects the racial and ethnic diversity of our country.
As the Court's decisions this term reminded us, the current majority is an existential threat to racial justice in America. We've seen them attack voting rights, laws designed to bring transparency to our elections, and more.
But we have the right to assemble and fight for what we believe in.
Now more than ever, our communities need a Black woman on the Court who is unafraid to take the fight against white supremacy
and wouldn't dare to back down on the fight to pass federal progressive legislation. She'll show up to do the work for the people and the people only.
It is crucial that the next Supreme Court Justice believes in using the law to achieve racial justice. RSVP to our organizing call with Demand Justice and help work toward ensuring President Biden nominates the first Black woman Supreme Court Justice in our nation's history >>
