I’ve been committed to service in our community since I was a young person, and that's why I announced my candidacy for the Iowa House of Representatives yesterday.

I’m running because the south side of Des Moines needs a problem solver with a broad background to meet the challenges it faces. I’m proud of my south side roots, and I’m looking forward to meeting voters throughout the district and representing their interests in the Iowa Legislature.

Bobby Kennedy once said, “Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total; of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.”

I worked in restaurants, construction, manufacturing, and transportation when I was younger. Inspired by my father, I became a teacher and a coach, teaching in rural Iowa and Des Moines. As a teacher, I worked to get students into community service and organizing efforts – feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, tending to those in need.

And that’s a big reason I’m running for the Iowa House of Representatives on the south side of Des Moines. I want to give back to the community that helped me get a leg up and have so much success in life.
