Last Friday, every Black lawmaker in the Mississippi State Senate walked out in protest of Republicans passing a bill that will ban schools from teaching critical race theory.
This bill is designed to whitewash any discussions of Mississippi’s racist past while fighting any and all efforts to educate children on how racism still impacts communities of color to this day.
It’s part of a pattern of behavior that's now leading to teachers and school administrators being disciplined and even fired for teaching history in the South.
This bill and similar ones introduced in states from Texas to Georgia and Florida underscore why our Flip the South campaign is so critical. To fight back and ensure basic history lessons are being taught, we need to compete for state legislative seats across the South.

Unsurprisingly, the sponsor of the bill, Republican Michael McLendon, could not even say what critical race theory is, yet somehow he still believes that no child should be taught it.
That insane display of illogical thinking shows exactly what our campaign to Flip the South is sorely needed.
