After months of debate and compromises in Congress, the Senate still failed to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act last week.
While this is an especially disappointing result for the thousands of voting rights activists and advocates across the country, who poured immeasurable amounts of time and effort into the passage of this act, it is not the end of our fight.
48 Democratic Senators stood strong to defend voting rights – but 2 Democrats, Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, did not. And all 50 Republican Senators refused to support voting rights legislation.
So we’re holding them accountable. This week, we’re calling our Senators to make our voice heard about the results of the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act vote.
