The State Senate Passed our Climate Corporate Accountability Act

Just yesterday, the California State Senate passed our sponsored bill, the Climate Corporate Accountability Act (SB 260)! This is a huge win for climate action. The bill requires big corporations conducting business in California with over $1 billion in revenue to disclose their total carbon emissions in a way that is publicly available and understandable. SB 260 will head to the Assembly in the next few months, so stay tuned as we continue our push to get this bill over the finish line and to Governor’s Newsom’s desk to be signed into law.

California’s redistricting process is complete, and our new maps are greener and fairer than the ones we’ve been using for the past decade. Check out this helpful explainer to learn more about redistricting and why it was such a huge win for democracy, diversity, and climate action.

Former Congressman Harley Rouda Joins EnviroVoters Ed Fund Board

Former Congressman Harley Rouda, who represented California’s 48th House District in Orange County from 2019 to 2021, brings a long-standing track record on climate and environmental issues to the Ed Fund board. As a member of Congress, Rouda helped secure full and permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which will protect and maintain California’s most iconic beaches, national parks, wildlife refuges and other public lands now and into the future.

Contact your State Senator: Help pass SB 342 for Bold Climate Action

The deadline for the State Senate to pass one of our priority climate bills is Monday, January 31. SB 342 would add two environmental justice seats onto the board of the agency responsible for improving air quality for about half of California's population. That means adding voices of people who actually live in communities dealing with toxic air pollution! If you haven’t already, email your State Senator to make sure they’re voting YES on SB 342, because all Californians deserve to breathe clean air.

Get Ready: Our 2021 Environmental Scorecard Is Coming Out Soon!

It’s almost here, friend: We’re preparing to launch our 2021 Environmental Scorecard next month! Every year since 1973, we’ve released a Scorecard evaluating and rating the Governor and every single California state legislator on their environmental actions (or inaction). As the 2030 deadline for bold climate action grows closer, we’ve also updated our Scorecard to show which legislators accept campaign contributions from oil and gas companies. The Scorecard serves a dual purpose: transparency for voters, since it’s nearly impossible to stay up to date on thousands of votes and bills in Sacramento, and accountability for legislators, who should be working on behalf of their constituents and California’s future, not corporate interests. Last year, we gave California a failing grade – so be on the lookout for our launch email in February and make sure you’re following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to be the first to know what grade we awarded the state for 2021.
